Do not take it Personal Coach
Every year, while coaching youth football, there is jerk. There is always one parent who has the same negative feedback as prior years, he/she just a different face. Hell, even Jesus had his critics. My point is you need to be able to deal with these jerks in a way where they will not ruin the experience of the whole youth football team.
I shoot for 90% approval for each youth football team I coach. That is, I allow or expect a maximum of one in every ten parents to be unhappy. Please note I am speaking of parents who would rate the season as a success. Many parents who did not enjoy the year will never say anything to you. Sometimes they wait until the end of the year, but throughout the year, they are quite.
You should be prepared for the end of the youth football season surprise, the unexpected low blow from one of the good parents. Occasionally you get a parent, who out of nowhere starts giving you some harsh criticism. This may come at the year-end party, after the last game or equipment turn in. Most years it has something to-do with their kids playing time or the position they played. I have made it my own personal policy to just smile and wave. I know it sucks, but be the bigger man and just walk away. There is nothing to gain by entering into a pissing contest.
I always take it especially hard since I have coached youth football the majority of my years, not knowing any of the kids. I believe I am as impartial as they come so it always hurts when someone is questioning your fairness. I always take the criticism to heart and then review it with my assistant coaches to make sure we have not done something out of line during the youth football season.
