Reps, Reps and more Reps
Whatever youth football offense you decide to run, you have to make sure that the team has enough repetitions running the plays. I have read a few other authors who try to put a number on the required number of time you need to run a play before you use it is a game. I disagree with this logic. This is crazy, to set some arbitrary number as the “required number” of reps required.
Over my 20+ years of coaching, I have coached kids that have never played football, and some kids that have had eight years of experience. I can tell you that the learning curve was different for these two groups. Each team develops at a different rate, and you will have to see how it goes each season.
The type of offense you decide to run will also make a difference on the amount of repetitions the team will need.
The only requirement I use when adding plays is I will introduce a few related plays at a time, but require the team be able to run each perfectly before I add more. My definition of perfectly is ten times in a row without a mistake or missed assignment. I use this rule while installing the base playbook.
